    Incineration of hazardous waste and district heating


    Renovated at a cost of EUR 200 million between 1994 and 1997, our high-temperature incineration plant is today one of the biggest and most modern in the world. 100,000 tons of waste can be incinerated here every year - and put to good use as an alternative source of energy. AVG is connected to Hamburg's district heating network via the neighbouring Tiefstack combined power plant. This way, we can supply up to 30,000 households with waste heat from the incineration process. That saves on expensive fuel in the power station. And it conserves our natural resources.

    Types of waste and spectrum of clients


    AVG disposes of all the combustible materials in the European waste catalogue - in solid, paste or liquid form, loose or in drums. This includes hazardous wastes of all types and origins, such PCB-contaminated oils, pesticides, paints, lacquers and resins, waste containing dioxins and halogens, contaminated filters and absorbent materials, contaminated soil, production residues from the chemical, pharmaceutical and other industries, and waste from laboratories or hospitals.


    Many producers of waste in Germany and around the world have integrated us permanently into theirs waste management plans because we offer them maximum-compliance waste disposal, 365 days a year. As a private-sector enterprise, we generate a large portion of our sales from the treatment of waste from overseas. These are materials that cannot be adequately treated in the countries in question, if at all. Our clients benefit from the proximity of the port of Hamburg, one of the most efficient container ports in the world.
